THE YEREVAN DERBY WAS FIERCELY CONTESTED, AND WE KICKED OFF THE CHAMPIONSHIP WITH A HARD-FOUGHT DRAW
In the 1st round of the Armenian Premier League, Urartu hosted Pyunik.
Pyunik opened the scoring in the 8th minute of the match.A few minutes later, the opponent committed a foul on Miguel Rajani, and our team was awarded a free kick. Gor Lulukyan took the shot towards goal, but was unable to find the back of the net.
Urartu created several dangerous moments around the opponent’s penalty area.
Our team continued to put pressure on the opponent.
Towards the end of the half, Rajani tried to find the back of the net with a powerful strike, but the post came to Pyunik’s rescue.
The teams went into the break with the score at 0-1.
At the beginning of the second half, our team once again moved the game into the opponent’s half. This time, Khariton Ayvazyan created a dangerous chance inside the penalty area. Unfortunately, his shot lacked power.
In the 69th minute, Pyunik extended their lead. Gevorg Tarakhchyan helped his team make it 0–2.
The battle between the two teams continued until the final whistle.
Towards the end of the match, Kovalenko received a red card, and Pyunik continued the game with 10 men during added time.
In added time, Mikhail Mirzoyan found the back of the net twice, completing his brace and helping his team secure a 2–2 draw.
Thus, the opening-round match ended in a 2–2 draw.
