ROBERT ARZUMANYAN: IT WAS A TOUGH GAME
Our head coach talked about the match.
It was a tough game. In the first half, I think we were rushing to play the ball forward in certain situations. We were giving the ball away and allowing counterattacks, so we needed to be more patient. We corrected that in some situations, and when we played with more patience, our attacking play improved and we were able to cause the opposition problems.
We managed to come back after going 1–0 down and score two goals. It is always easier to talk about things after the game, but we chose to continue in the same way until the second goal. We then conceded a second goal. Ararat put up a worthy fight, but they failed to convert their scoring opportunities. The 2–2 scoreline reflects what happened on the pitch.
- Ararat broke through your defence through the middle several times today. Do you see a problem there?
- I mentioned one of the problems: when we had the ball, we were rushing and attempting risky passes, which led to turnovers. We were unable to reorganise quickly enough to prevent counterattacks. Ararat also have fast players in attack. We corrected this in some situations, but we knew they had pace in their attacking line. In many cases, we were creating problems for ourselves.
- You have changed your formation over the last three games. Does Khariton Ayvazyan not fit into these systems, or has he lost his place in the starting lineup?
- No, all our players have an equal opportunity to play. As you saw today, we made a number of changes, particularly involving players who had returned from international duty. If we look at the first two matches of the championship, there were also several changes, and we had players dealing with injuries as well.
There are many positions within the formation, and we make different decisions depending on the players available. We try to put each player in the position where they can perform best. He has not lost his place; we simply make different decisions for different matches.
- What can you say about Van Lingen? Was Bruno Michel injured?
- Yes, he was experiencing some minor discomfort, and we wanted to avoid taking any risks.
Van Lingen is working on regaining his match fitness. The time will come when he is in the starting lineup, as his last match was in May. He is building up his fitness, and this time he performed better than in the previous match.
